While the details of where and when this image was taken may have been lost, we can still tell a lot about this image. Only winter camps would have had semi-permanent structures such as this. You can tell if you look that mud has been carefully placed between the logs to help keep the weather out. You can also tell that a small stove for heat has been added to the cabin on the left.
While these men may have been assigned the duty of chopping wood, it is also likely that they the occupants since 4-6 men was common for these type of structures. They may be sharing chopping duty, or perhaps it was his “turn” for the man on the right. It was easier for domestic chores such as heating and cooking to be shared among the men.
