Lyndon B Johnson in Navy Uniform - 1942
Johnson was elected to Congress in 1937, serving until 1949. When the U.S. entered WWII in December of 1941, Johnson became a commissioned officer in the Navy Reserve. In 1942, Roosevelt sent Johnson to the South Pacific to report on conditions.
During this time Johnson reported to General MacArthur. Johnson participated in several combat missions for which he was awarded the Silver Star.
