01915 - Young girl at Aiken house; Aiken's Landing, Virginia, 1864 [LC-DIG-cwpb-01916]
Although the original inscription for this card is "Young girl at Aiken house", a close examination reveals that she has a ring on her wedding finger. Looking at the other cards taken at Aiken house reveal three children. Are these her children? While the relationship is not known, we do see here a young woman that has seen several years of war. Aiken's Landing, near this house, was used extensively under a flag of truce for prisoner exchanges. The area today is known as Varina and Aiken's landing has slipped into the pages of history.
