Gettysburg, July 5th (or 7th), 1863 - Timothy O'Sullivan Alexander Gardner photographed a group of Federal (Union) soldiers lying dead on the battlefield several days after the fire has ceased. A man is missing his boots, another has been struck int he head, and a third shows severe bloating of his right hand.
