Major General George Custer, 05340
A few days prior to the start of Gettysburg, George Custer was promoted to Brigadier General at the age of 23. Two years later, on the same day that Lincoln died, he was promoted again to Major General. At the time, this was the highest rank any officer (other than General Grant) could be promoted to in the Union Army.
