"Going and Coming" by Norman Rockwell in 3D

Saturday Evening Post Cover: August 30, 1947

Size of Original: 2 panels 31.5” W X 16” H

Location of Original: Norman Rockwell Museum of Stockbridge

Rockwell used the local postman’s station wagon as the car in the paintings after looking at and rejecting several other vehicles. He used photographs extensively for assisting in creating these images.

He photographed each model twice, once for coming and once for going with different expressions on their faces. Only grandma is the same picture just flipped horizontally. That is why she appears to be the only one who is not tired when returning home.

A bubble gum company sent Rockwell a crate of bubble gum in appreciation for having painted the little girl blowing a bubble.
