This illustration is typical of the humorous touches that Rockwell often liked to incorporate in his paintings.
The youth is modeled after his son Jarvis while the woman is his wife Mary.
According to Jarvis, Norman Rockwell indicated that the sexual angle of a young man looking at the woman’s bosom was important to the paintings theme.
A nice touch of humor is from the men in the other “Dutch Masters” painting looking at the scene with shock and dismay. Rockwell himself never had any fawning over paintings such as the Mona Lisa but envied those others that could.
